Maintaining armored vehicles on the Ford F-550: schedule and weak points
An armored build carries 2–4 extra tonnes. That reshapes the service schedule: intervals shrink and some assemblies become consumables. Practical notes from our work since 2009.
Every service visit
Brakes (pads, discs, hoses), shock and bushing condition, oil level and state, cooling system, springs and armor-module mounts. Dust shortens filter life — check the air filter every time.
Shortened intervals under armor weight
Versus a stock F-550: oil and filter every 8–10k km (vs 12–15k), brake pads 15–25k, shocks 30–50k even for HD units, hub bearings monitored from 40k. Fuel filter every 15–20k km on local diesel.
What to keep in reserve
A minimal fleet kit: filters for two services, front pads, accessory belt, ABS sensors, mirrors and bulbs — that covers ~80% of unplanned downtime. Everything else ships to order with a confirmed lead time.
Our Kyiv service also handles diagnostics, repairs and scheduled maintenance for the F-550 and armored builds.
